Welcome to Buena Vista Auxiliary's 16th annual A Toast to Tutoring. We are looking forward to a memorable evening of fine wines, exciting auctions and celebration! As many of you know from previous years, this is a wonderful evening for a great cause. A Toast to Tutoring is the primary fundraiser for the Buena Vista Tutorial Program, which serves local elementary school children reading below grade level. This evening is critical to the success of our program, and represents the culmination of our fundraising efforts for the year. Proceeds from the event go directly to the deserving schools and children within our program.
California's financial woes continue to take a toll on our education system. Class sizes have increased, valuable state-funded programs have been cut, and teachers are working harder than ever to meet the needs of their students. The Buena Vista Tutorial Program continues to fill a critical need for elementary-age students, their parents, and their teachers. Your continued support and generous contributions allow us to continue to offer these services and to help children in-need in Contra Costa County.
Since the Tutorial Program's inception in 1993, Buena Vista Auxiliary has provided tutoring for more than 3,300 children in the Mt. Diablo Unified and Walnut Creek School Districts. Proceeds from this year's A Toast to Tutoring will continue to fund the 10 elementary schools currently participating in the Buena Vista Tutorial Program, and potentially more! As we feel the need for our program growing, our goal is to fund as many tutoring sessions as possible in the coming year.
This year we will honor an individual who has been a very generous donor to Buena Vista Auxiliary. For many years, Rod Santos, owner of Wine Thieves, has partnered with our organization by donating incredible wines for our guests to enjoy. He has never missed an event! In addition, Rod's wife, Lisa Santos has been a participating teacher in our Buena Vista Tutorial Program. They both continue to support our efforts year after year, and we are eternally grateful. We look forward to introducing Mr. Santos to you at the event.
This fabulous evening of celebration is made possible by vintners and breweries from throughout the Bay Area who generously donate their time and delicious wine and beer, and by the valued sponsors listed on this website. We could not do it without you! I also extend a sincere thank you to the amazingly dedicated women on our A Toast to Tutoring Event Committee. Your creativity, enthusiasm and tireless efforts will have a lasting impact in the lives of deserving children in our community.
On behalf of Buena Vista Auxiliary's membership, thank you for supporting the Buena Vista Tutorial Program. We are thrilled that you share our passion for children's literacy, an incredibly important cause and one that has the ability to change lives. We look forward to making a difference together, and to our fun filled evening on Friday, April 20th.
An Evening of Fun for Us. . . A Lifetime of Reading to Children!
Sincerely,
